about me.

So... I'm Hannah. I look something like this (or at least I did several months ago!)...

I'm a 25 year old PhD student studying at the University of Exeter! I'm interested in the history of sexuality and gender and for my PhD I'm conducting an oral history project into contraception since 1970.

The title of this blog comes from Philip Pullman's The Amber Spyglass. A book that everyone should read. It is devastating and wonderful and I can't talk about it without getting emotional.

I mainly post about TV, films and books; as a point of reference these are a couple of my favourites:

TV: The West Wing, Alias, Band of Brothers, Mad Men, Parks & Rec, New Girl
Films: Singin' In The RainCasino Royale, Before Sunset/Sunrise, Hugo, The Mummy, Finding Nemo, The Fall
Books: Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials, Jeanette Winterson's Written on the Body, Elizabeth Wein's Code Name Verity, Jonathan Safran Foer's Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Veronica Roth's Divergent and Insurgent, Roald Dahl's Matilda, Ian McEwan's Atonement, Patrick Ness' Chaos Walking trilogy and Harry Potter (OBVIOUSLY!)

I learnt how to crochet in the summer of 2013 and since then I've blogged about that as well (or at least I do when my camera's working and I remember to take pictures before giving projects to their rightful owners!)
